An Ankara Piece! Another form of educating my kids!

Hello, hope your week is going well thus far.  I shared this ankara two piece look which was sewn by a family friend from Ghana and sent here months ago.  Ankara is basically one of the terms used to describe African fabric clothing.  Some of the fabrics are used for more traditional african styles and other times more trendy, less traditional styles like this peplum top and shorts look.  I love Ankara for it’s uniqueness, comfort and many reasons but it’s also become one of the ways I plan on teaching my interracial/inter-cultural kids about their African culture (Cameroon/Nigeria background).

Besides the clothing, other ways of teaching them about their culture is having them around others like them, making sure they recognize their African names and are proud of it as they get older, exposing them to African music/shows/books etc, African foods which we always have at home, exposing them to their African dialect sometimes spoken by my parents and other family members because mine is not great.  Lastly, I also plan on having them visit African countries especially Cameroon and Nigeria as much as we can possibly do when conditions permits.  I find that all this is an important part of not forgetting where they come from.

About the look, I paired the set with more neutral colored items with the heels and the fun bag.  Hope you like and thanks for stopping by!
