Ruffles and Sock Booties!

Dress- Express(Here), Boots- c/o Shoedazzle (Here), Bag- Zara (Similar).

Seasons greetings! Hope you had a fantastic christmas.  Without getting too long, I'll just say that although I got some great gifts, my greatest gift and best gift ever was having my baby with me this christmas.  I am beyond thankful to God for this.  We spent a lot of the time with family and went to get pictures taken with Santa which went well with no crying from Ella but I know next year will be different haha.  I think this will be one of our yearly christmas traditions. Hope your holiday season is going great.

About this look, I was gifted these amazing trendy sock booties, the Jessica from shoedazzle and I love them.  I liked the block heel which made them more comfortable and the sock part of the booties is not too tight which made me like them more.  They also come other colors you should check out.  I thought to keep the focus on the statement booties and paired them with this green ruffled dress which I have in another color because simply stated, they work for my transitioning post baby body. I added the bag with the chain links to add a bit of an edge to the look. Hope you like it and wishing you a continuous happy holiday season.

Birthday Suit & thoughts 2017!

Blazer- H&M (Here), Trousers- H&M (Here), Bag- Melie Bianco (Similar), Heels- Macy's (Similar), Lashes/Makeup- Ojitos bonitos (Here), photography- L& R photography.

Hello, and thank you all for all the birthday wishes.  Another birthday year has come and gone and if you follow me on instagram or facebook, you'll know when I say this year has been adventurous but the best year yet and I am grateful.  Moving forward, I'll share 5 things I have learned by my birthday or things that struck me this bday year.
1) As the quote states and I'll explain, whatever does not serve me, grows me, or makes me happy (job, friendships, forced family interactions etc) I will let go and you should think about doing the same.  I am reminded more each day that life is short and to have things that only produce some sort of satisfaction whether it's good deeds, friendships, jobs and more.
2) You inspire those that pretend not to see you.  I saw this statement on Instagram and thought it was true as a general statement not pertaining to me per say.  I do have to say though that I appreciate those of you who write me and ask questions about nursing school, the doctoral program, furthering education, blogging inquiries etc.  It’s a part of the reason why I blog but I’m always amazed by some who act like they don’t see what I’m doing, never like, comment or even acknowledge me but do watch closely and some copy (copying is ok to me though, it’s flattery after all but at least an acknowledgement is a good gesture).  Some criticize behind but I know are being inspired by something or something resonates, even something small I might share or repost.  I think we should be aware of our lives because we just might be inspiring someone might not let you know they are being inspired.
3)  Motherhood is the hardest job, the most rewarding and my favorite job ever because besides receiving the purest unconditional love, it brings out love from you which you didn’t know existed.  I’ll write more on this on another motherhood blog post.  I am grateful for this role.
4)  My mother is my best friend but that’s not to say having a few quality friends is not appreciated.  The older I get, and from becoming a mother, I realize how much love my mother has and has always had for me even when she stopped me from certain things, it was always for my best interest. She only wants the best for me and is my biggest cheerleader, support, secret keeper, and so much more.  That’s not to say that having a few quality friends is not appreciated because it is. We should always remember quality over quantity and as I get older each year, I’m reminded of this more as we grow apart from some, our interests change or we just finally get to see the true colors of some and move along.
5) I look around social media and some tv shows now and all I see are what I feel are bad examples, bad role models and all this being rewarded it seems.  It appears the more outrageous, vile, trashy, rude, non believers, class-less acting “ghetto” you act, it seems you are kept on the show longer, or given a spin off.  Education, manners, morals, and good role models are not highlighted for the impressionable ones to look up to.  I refuse to fall into this and I had to write this to encourage others to remember that although not always highlighted, some things have always been and will always be important and we should do our part towards maintaining it.  To mention a few a few, these are education, having morals, good manners, just striving to be a good person in a world full of so many wannabe “bad asses”.

For my birthday, I wanted something different from a dress and went for a suit.  The quality of this suit is great especially for the price by the way.  Normally I might've paired it with black or another colored heels but thought to make it more vibrant for a bday look and kept the look in all red.  I was also gifted with lashes from a friend who's an amazing makeup artist with her own lash line and thought what better day to try them because I usually don't do false lashes for the thought that they are uncomfortable.  To my surprise, these were comfortable, very easy to apply and can be worn over 20 different times.  You should check out the lashes here.  Thank you again for all the birthday love and for stopping by!

STYLE: Shorts Into the Fall!

Sweater- H&M (Here), Shorts- H&M (Here), Boots- Steve Madden (Similar), Bag- Chanel, Necklace- Old (Similar, Similar).

Hello and hope you had a lovely thanksgiving! Ours was nice and I was so happy to celebrate Ella's first thanksgiving.  One thing that usually happens around thanksgiving is cooler weather.  I got these high waist white linen shorts on sale and although I thought they would be good for vacation and warmer weather, I wanted to style them for fall as a transitional piece and did so by adding over the knee boots and a turtle neck sweater.  I am having to size up as I am still with my post baby weight but thought the shorts are a great transitional piece which are forgiving.  Thanks for stopping by!

STYLE: Yellow Ankara!

Skirt- Ankara Custom Gifted (Similar), Heels- Just fab (Similar), Clutch- gifted (Similar, Similar), Shirt- H&M (Here).

Hello! Hope your week is going well.  I can't believe it's thanksgiving week already and so I have to write a short thanksgiving post.  I will write a more detailed post at the end of the year of being thankful but for today's post, I have to remind you of the saying that 'everyday may not be good, but there is something good about every day' and for this reason, we should be thankful.  I am thankful for so much but as you can guess, I'm most thankful that God chose me to mother Ella.

For this look, mom gifted me with this high low hemmed ankara (african inspired) skirt she'd had made and because of the bold yellow color and print of the skirt, I wanted to keep the focus on the skirt and paired it with a simple white shirt, yellow heels and a golden yellow-like clutch.  This high waist skirt like most high waist skirts I believe is great especially for after thanksgiving full bellies, since we are talking about thanksgiving ha.  Anyway hope you like this and wishing you a happy thanksgiving!

STYLE: Ruffled in Mustard!

Shoes- Steve Madden (Here), Bag- Chanel (budget friendly here), Dress- Express (Here), Belt- Tory Burch (Here).

Hello, so this is my first post baby outfit blog post and I had not been sure about what to wear since I still have almost 20 pounds still on from the pregnancy.  What I found is that dresses like this fit me ok presently and that works for me because it's a style I always like anyway.

This ruffles are a fun addition and the color just made me like the dress more.  I think this mustard yellow color is great year round.  I chose to add a black belt to the elastic waist area, a black bag, and added over the knee boots since it's a short dress. Hope you like the look and thanks for stopping by!

MOTHERHOOD: 5 Things I Experienced during Pregnancy I was Unaware of!

Dress- Sewtrendy

Motherhood has been such a joy to me in too many ways and looking at a picture like this makes me miss pregnancy afterall it was the closest I was to my baby.  Although the experience of pregnancy is one I am thankful for, I wanted to share just a few things that occurred to me during my pregnancy that I was unaware would happen but some of you might've known better.  I share this just in case it happens to you too but I'll always advise to check with your physician or medical provider with any occurrences.  Some of the occurrences included this 5.

1) Excessive spitting and salivation- This mainly occurred within the first 20 weeks and it was gross for lack of better words.  I would spit into anything and anywhere.  If I did not have something to spit into, I'd make it work.  For example, if I was driving and needed to spit and I did not have a container for that, I'd use my jacket (wash later) or open a new bottle of water, spit into it and throw away of course.  I had an empty bottle in my office drawer for spitting which was gross and went on until it stopped.  I'll later share some of the things that helped me with this on another post.

2) Darkening of my stomach, face, and a few other areas-  I was aware of the line (linea nigra) which appears on your abdomen eventually during pregnancy but was unaware that the abdomen and face  like mine could just get darker. I found that this happened later on in the pregnancy at over 34 weeks.  The good news is, in my case I see that my coloration is getting back to being more even.

3) Back acne- Or 'backne' as my husband and I jokingly referred to.  I can say so far I've been blessed with fairly acne-free skin so this was a surprise to me.  I'd heard that some people would break out with acne on their face during pregnancy but I was unaware of the back one.  It was a lot and not pleasant but my hubby and I would just laugh at it and I hoped it'd go away which thankfully it did clear up.  I would laugh and just say, well atleast it's not on my face, I said this in trying to find a positive in the situation.

4) Increase in my feet size- This would've made me unhappy if not of the constant reminder to myself of the gift I was carrying which was better than any shoe collection.  It did bother me a tiny bit because if you know me, you'll know I have a lot of shoes in my opinion.  So the thought of a bigger foot meant to me that I might not wear these shoes.  The truth is, during my pregnancy I did not do much as far as occasions which required many shoes anyway and now post pregnancy, my feet are getting back to what they were although maybe still a teeny tiny bigger.

5) Sweating and excess of other bodily fluids- Excessive sweating in more areas than others, so much that I had to ask my doctor.  She discussed this with me and because she was aware of my history and had been tracking my labs, she reassured me.  Besides sweating, there was more of other bodily fluids besides saliva that was a surprise to me.  I'll let you use your imagination here because I'd prefer not to be too specific haha.  Thankfully this was only for a few weeks and stopped.

I plan on sharing some information on my motherhood journey and my pregnancy experience on some blog posts so if interested, just watch for it.  Thanks for reading!

STYLE: From Day to Night and Hot to Cold!

Clutch-old (Similar, Similar), Bracelets- Babyroz boutique (Love this here), Heels- Christian Louboutin (Similar), Dress- New York & Co (love this here), Jacket-Express (Similar).

Hello and happy new month!  It's amazing how time passes by because I remember this time last year having baby on my mind, praying and today, I'm holding my baby as I am writing this post.  One thing I can say is, if you really want something, something good of course to start by saying it out loud.  I'm a believer in speaking things into existence.

About this look, I wanted to style this sleeveless tan/beige dress which I think can be styled for a daytime look to work and also appropriate for an outing in the evening with the faux leather accents.  I added the jacket to show how easy it is to transition from warmer temps during the day to cooler temps in the evenings.  Thanks for stopping by!
