A Fit & Flare NYE?!

Hello!  Can you believe 2014 is around the corner? Well I am ready for a fresh start.  One thing I'm remembering as we go into 2014 is, those who want to be in your life will be and even when it's difficult, they'll find a way.  With this, I'm thankful for family, few close friends I have, the new friends I've made from blogging, and also thankful for the toxic relationships no longer in my life.

What are your New Year eve (NYE) plans?  Although I live in Texas, I'll be in Austin, another Texas city.  I chose to pack this fit & flare dress as a NYE option because it's a nice mix of not casual yet not too dressy because being in another city and not knowing the exact plans, I thought it'd work with various plans.  I thought the shimmer in it was a nice touch for NYE.  I added the colored necklace to enhance the blue, a black clutch and black shoes to complete the feminine look. By the way, fit and flare dresses are flattering and great for hiding hips when needed yet accentuating the waist.

A Structured Mini!

Hi everyone! Am I the only one who feels like this Christmas is getting here so soon? I love Christmas but although I love it, I'm already not looking forward to it being gone.  I love what Christmas signifies from a religious standpoint and I also love the cheeriness in the air, the decorations, getting together, and yes the gift exchanges because I'll think of it as one more gesture of love...although I do agree that in the western world, it has become a bit too commercialized.

I wore this outfit and thought to use it for a post because the skirt is unique in my wardrobe.  I love skirts and although I was a bit hesitant with this, I wore it because I think fashion is sometimes wearing what you might not immediately gravitate towards.  Since the structured mini skirt stands out on it's own, I chose to keep the rest of the look minimal which I think is best.  I achieved that with black pieces, a bodysuit, clutch, tights, boots, and simple jewelry.

Leopard Split!

Hello! I hope your week is going great so far.  I'd taken a short break from doing a blog post to focus on school and I've missed it.  If you follow me on instagram, you'll see I posted a picture days ago which stated I'd passed my nurse practitioner boards.  I started this blog while in graduate school, so to be in this position still blogging and done with the program makes me so happy.  The program was challenging but I think nothing good comes easy and we are all capable of achieving what we set our minds to, of course with determination, hard work, and personally I think God.
About the outfit, I wanted to pair this leopard skirt with a black top which would be my usual choice but I opted for the blue blouse instead to add a pop of color as I think it's ok to use leopard as a neutral sometimes.  I added the oversize black clutch and my new favorite black shoes to complete the look.

Happy birthday to me with a giveaway!

While watching the news the other day, I saw it stated the gorgeous actor Paul walker had died in a car accident.  This was on the last day of November which made me think of how fortunate I was to make it to December & be blessed to celebrate another birthday!  Every birthday is a blessing I'm thankful for.  As of this birthday, I plan to continue striving to be a better person.
Anyway this is a simple dress I wore to one of my birthday dinners.  I wanted a simple look and I know I achieved it.  I think keeping it simple at times is ok and does not take away from the look.

Tartan & Leather!

Hello! I hope your week so far has been great.  I got my hair braided earlier this week and I love that braids give my hair a break from weave extensions which exposes my hair more to the harsh weather changes and causes breakage.  Can you believe tomorrow is thanksgiving?  What are you thankful for? I am so thankful for my supportive parents, my loving husband, but most importantly thankful to God for my health and strength to graduate.

Anyway, I love this tartan shirt because I can pair it with black pants to work or with a short faux leather skirt like this to go out with friends.  Tartan/plaid is another trend I love this season which can be worn in different could be worn in a more sexy or conservative way.

Full Floral!

Hope your week is going ok so far.  I can't believe thanksgiving is a week from today.  I caught up with one of my oldest dearest African friends via telephone yesterday and I am thankful to have her and a few others as friends even with the distance because good friendships are not easy to find.
Anyway after studying at the university's library, I took some blog photos while there but of course after an outfit change.  Full skirts are another trend this fall which I think can be pulled off by all body types.  I'm still searching for the right one but for now, I thought this floral skirt I'd purchased on sale months ago would work similarly.  I paired it with a yellow shirt, colorful necklace and clutch to keep the look bright.

Black & White with a Posh Find!

Hello! Hope your weekend went well.  Besides studying, I was busy with my fairly new side adventure, poshmark.    In trying to clean out my closet, I thought to sell some of my never worn or barely used items and donate what I choose not to sell to those in need in my home away from home Nigeria and Cameroon.  I opened a 'shop my closet' poshmark account.  So far I like it, though I hate the 20% fees, but I think it's slightly justifiable since they ship.
Although I should be selling, I could not resist buying this new $38 C.Wonder clutch for $15 from poshmark.  I paired the clutch for a hint of color with this outfit but keeping the rest of the look black and white. I added a blazer with the dress because I think it's a nice way to transform a look, for instance going from a date to the office.

Skirt & Stripes!

Hope you had a nice weekend guys!  I studied but was able to sneak a few hours to the bar with a friend who's having some dating issues.  Marriage is not easy but hearing some of these issues makes me appreciate marriage more.  I also attended a game where my lovely mother in law was announced as teacher of the year...proud of her!
About this outfit, I simply realized I had this unworn white BCBG top and wanted to wear it.  I thought to wear the skirt with before it gets too cold.  I like that the skirt and top are both flared out and the jacket makes the look more fitted; and also great for the evening when cooler.  I say when unsure of what color to pair with a white or black item, pair them together.  Can't go wrong with black and white together!

Isabel Marant for H&M in stores Nov 14th!

Do you have any favorites? I love the coats, the boots with the fringe on the side, and the red pants.

Thanks for stopping by!

Peplum & OTK!

Happy new month guys! I can't believe November is here?!  I feel the older I get, the faster time goes.  My birthday is about 4 weeks away as well as upcoming thanksgiving and Christmas, my favorite holidays.  It's already starting to feel like the holidays as I attended the annual Christmas fair on sunday.  Anyway, november here usually brings cooler weather.  I was happy to be able to wear one of this season's trends I've had, the over the knee (OTK) boot which I wore with a peplum .

I went to Forever 21 for a tank top for a blazer but ended up with this embroidered faux leather peplum top.  I gave in and got it simply because I didn't own a leather peplum top.  I love peplums and I'm not a size 0, nor 14.  Point is, I think they can be worn by women of all sizes, and an all black look is an easy way to wear it if in doubt.

Floral Greens!

Hey guys! hope the weekend went well for you!  I spent mine studying for my boards and I never realized I could get so anxious about an exam but I am although learning to cope.  Anyway as you can see, it's still warm here and I'm not loving it because I'm so ready for fall weather, boots and all.
I love peplums but I would not have bought it in this color but after receiving it as a gift a while ago and never wearing it, I thought to wear it with this floral shirt I got on a great sale.  Love a sale!  Anyway I think it's ok to sometimes try what you'd normally not buy for yourself.

Outfit of the Day (Casual): Hint of Turquoise with Mint!

I love jewelry like most but as much as I love big shiny pieces, I also love unique beautiful pieces which stand out like these here.  I used to think turquoise jewelry was only for the "boho chic" style which although I like, I am not.  But I now realize different styles can wear it, it's how you wear it.

I'd planned on wearing the necklace with the mint pants and since the weather got slightly cooler (although it looks bright), I wore the knit top of a similar hue.  I'd been carrying the grey bag so I wore these shoes with grey/taupe at the front to match the bag as neutrals and headed out to lunch but not before taking photos in the parking lot.

Leopard & Leather!

Hope you had a great start of the week!  I studied and caught up with a friend who did my hair extensions this weekend.  I'd had my extensions put in weeks ago but hated how it'd turned out.  My friend always told me she could do it but I'd avoided it in case I hated it, not to hurt her feelings but glad that's not the case.

Regarding my look, I'd always wanted to try T-strap shoes although I worried it'd not look good because of my wide feet but since it was reasonably priced, I tried.  They are dainty, feminine and I liked them on my wide feet.  I paired it with my long faux leather skirt, shirt, and bag I've had and one of my newer favorite statement necklaces.  I like the trend of leather and statement necklaces this fall.  Anyway I think even a wide feet can pull off the right T-Strap heel.

Outfit of the Day: High Rise!

Hope you are having a good week! I am studying for my boards but the blog is a nice escape.  I love shopping but I love a shopping deal more.  This Forever 21 shirt was on sale for $15 but had an added 50% off!  I'd signed up for Asos emails and got a discount I used towards these high rise/high waisted wide leg shorts.  Although I love color, I kept the look fairly monochromatic pairing it with a black bag and shoe.  Years ago I wouldn't wear anything high waisted, but I do as I get older.  I think high waisted shorts can be worn year round and can transition into fall with tights and boots.

Orange Shift!

Hey everyone! hope you had a lovely weekend.  I was recovering from a cold and allergies but glad to be ok now.  On sunday, I caught up with a Cameroonian (African) friend who took these pictures.  There are not too many Cameroonians where I live so it's always great to spend time with one because it's a piece of home away from home.

Anyway on the outfit, I love shift dresses because they are so forgiving on the body.  I think just about every body shape can wear a shift dress.  I also love the bright color of this dress and simply paired it with another one of my fall favorite shoes, fun necklace, and my big clutch.

Outfit of the Day: Simple Striped Shirt Dress!

Hope your week is going ok so far! Although still warm, it was windy the other day but it's ok because this dress does not fly up like others.  Shirt dresses are so easy to throw on and are so comfortable that I kept it on all day after wearing it for a visit.  For a pop of color, I added one of my new favorite necklaces in red from Mesa Blue, and a red clutch.  I look forward to pairing it with tights and boots when cooler but since it's not, these black heels worked.
